Mike always knew since he was a kid how different he was. He always felt it. Something weird about him. Later on in his life, he thought he finally knew what it was. That liking boy was what made him different. Only when he felt a sharp pain in his abdomen in class one time did he truly realize what was different about him.

“Are you okay with the movie I picked out?”
“Huh?” Will asked, before registering the question. “Oh yeah, it’s fine,” he said, only now realizing that the movie had started. It was Back To The Future.
They watched the first act in comfortable silence. Will wasn’t really paying attention to the movie, though. That sweet smell had permeated the air. He felt drunk on it.
And Mike, who had started the movie sitting and appropriate distance away from Will, had gradually crept into his space, until their thighs and shoulders were touching. Don’t read into it. Don’t read into it. Will recited in his head, like a mantra. Still, the places where they touched burned.

"What about Nancy?" Dustin asks softly against his lips, and Steve knows he's not asking out of jealousy or resentment, but out of curiosity and a good dose of logic.
It's a logical question, considering how hard Steve was trying to get closer to Nancy, to win back the heart of someone who was never meant to be his... and whom Steve doesn't want to be his, because the person he wants is right in front of him, waiting for something Steve should have given him long ago.
He exhales softly with a small, sly smile, feeling a tenderness that almost makes his chest ache. He breathes against Dustin's lips, barely touching them, not yet kissing them, and as if his voice were touching something sacred, he murmurs:
"Turns out she was just my Tammy."
Or: As they prepare to return to the Upside Down, Steve and Dustin confess their feelings.
