Work Text:
You were angry.
No. You were pissed.
You woke up like that. You knew that bad things happened, you knew HE did bad. Still slightly dreamy, you shed the shirt you had as a nightgown, and without bothering to get your makeup or hair done, you put on the clothes and got ready to go out.
A sleepy groan echoed in the bedroom, when you made a bit too much noise, picking up the keys from the desk
“Babe? Where are you going?” A sleepy male voice sounded from underneath the covers.
“Out for work. Away from you anyway.” You huffed.
The man sat up immediately, yawning and rubbing his eyes, trying to get rid of the remnants of sleep that clung to him “Why what’s wrong? What did I do?”
“You’re a pig, Shiranui!”
He looked at you with confusion “Wh-”
Without any other word, you slammed the doors behind you, surely waking up the nearest neighbors.
Genma sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose “The hell I’ve done this time…?” He huffed and threw himself back on the bed.

Your desk was swamped by the stacks of papers that seemed to even grow with every passing minute. Letters, bills, pending requests, invitations, and complaints.
It wasn’t bad actually, focusing on something as boring as going through the pile of official papers let your mind stay off from thinking about the morning. It was, by the time Shizune came to work, and the moment she saw you, she knew that something was going on - you two knew each other for long enough to notice such a thing within seconds.
But even when she offered you a break, or just a talk over the coffee machine you refused, embarrassment over the morning events grew inside your stomach filling it with a feeling like inside you grew a big cold ball. For almost the whole day, you did your best to stay silent, excusing yourself with work you should catch up or otherwise you’d have to work over hours.
Finally, when you were about to finish the biggest pile, with a loud creak Shizune moved her chair closer and sat fixing her gaze on you “What’s going on? You refused to go on a coffee break. You sit behind your desk all day without a word, and you get annoyed when anyone asks pretty much anything.”
“It’s… Nothing.” You mumbled, hoping that she’ll lose interest when you won’t answer her right away.
But she only looked at you with intimidation. She crossed her legs and took a sip of her chocolate-smelling coffee. “Really? Do you try to lie to me? By your face, I’d say...” her eyes narrowed, leaving only a small space through with her pupils were visible “troubles in paradise.”
“No. Not… Really.” Again you murmured, losing hope on leaving the situation behind. Even your voice betrayed you, losing its composure, trembling, and giving away the hints of your mood.
“Oh? Well, now you have to tell me.” Shizune leaned closer to you, her mug clattered against her teeth when she took another sip of a delicious-smelling drink.
You lowered your voice enough for her to hear, even if you two were the only ones in the small office. But the fact that someone could come in any minute bringing new papers... the last thing you needed was gossip about your boyfriend and you, and the woman sitting next to you was the only one that you could trust with this sort of information. “Okay, okay. So, I had this… Dream.”
“Naughty one or-”
“No, no. It was…” you interrupted her “I dreamed about Genma yes, and... you remember that nurse he met once he was at the hospital when he had an accident during our vacation? And swore that he only talked with her?”
“Of course I do, you two had silent days for two weeks, and doing anything with both of you was a pain in the ass,” she rolled her eyes on the memory of your little crisis, she was the mediator between you two bravely withstanding your moods and stupid childish behaviors “especially that none had a reason to act like that - she had a girlfriend and was more interested in hooking up with you than with him.” She finished with a wave of her hand.
“Shut up Shiz.” Suddenly feeling embarrassed you tensed. The fact that nurse actually tried to hit on you back then was one thing you wished to forget - for the next week you couldn’t wipe off the smug smirk that stuck onto Genma’s mouth, and for the next month he rebuked you about missing the opportunity for a nice threesome “So… Yeah, but I dreamed about her too. I was at my mother’s place all of a sudden and Genma was there. He excused himself for a second, but I went to find him. And when I found him, he was making out with her in the garden.”
The woman blinked a few times in utter confusion “That’s... it?”
“Yeah.”
“And you’ve got annoyed over a stupid dream with someone who you were suspicious about... two years ago?”
“N-no. I mean. Yes. Partially. It’s the cause of what happened next.”
“Please don’t tell me you broke up with him…”
“No, I’m not that stupid,” With every second the whole situation was more and more embarrassing. For Shizune on the other hand, it became funnier and funnier. “I only left the flat, while he was barely awake. I screamed at him before I got out...”
The woman in front of you narrowed her eyes, waiting for the end of the story.
Your face burned from shame “And I might’ve called him a pig.”
Shizune blinked, her eyes dilated, processing and imagining how the whole situation would look like. Barely asleep, probably still half-naked man getting scoffed over a stupid dream by his long-term partner. Despite that she tried really hard, she just couldn’t hold it.
In one moment she snickered, releasing all the air she was holding in her lungs, to laugh whole-hearty almost spilling around the last bits of her drink.
You waited until her laughing phase would pass. Finally, when she stopped shuddering, you could speak again “Thanks, Shiz. I knew I could count on you.” You retorted.
“I’m sorry, but you’re just too funny. Oh, how I wish Kurenai and Anko could see your face now...”
“Better if they don’t know it. Kurenai will spill it to Asuma for sure, and if Anko knew the whole village would speak about this tomorrow! You better tell me what I should do. Gods, I feel stupid.”
“Oh, as would I.” Her lips disappeared behind the mug yet again, this time, she tilted it to the limits, drinking up the rest of her coffee. “(Y/n), just go home and apologize to him. It was just a stupid dream, I’m sure that he’ll laugh about that too.” She stood up, taking her chair back to her desk, and sat back behind it. “I can cover your work for today if you want, you can go and explain to him?”
“No, no. I need to calm down and think about how to apologize to him.”
“That shouldn’t be hard, men are simple in handling. Especially Genma.”
“Shut up.”
“Alright, alright…” Shizune giggled, seeing the angry gaze you threw in her direction. She didn’t dig the matter anymore and up until the end of your work, you both remained rather silent.

It was dark already when you left the office, closing the doors behind you, leaving Shizune with a goodbye wave of your hand and a promise that you’ll tell her everything tomorrow.
On your way back you had to figure out how to say sorry to your partner. Since it’s late, and there was nothing prepared for dinner you figured that a nice, hot, and spicy bowl of ginger-rich pumpkin broth would be a good start. And luckily the booth that he particularly liked was on your way home. Passing by a bookstore you grabbed a book guide about a place he bragged that he wanted to visit on this year’s vacation with you.
So having both things you opened the doors to your small apartment, hoping that your man will be there. The sight you’ve encountered inside stunned you, taking for a few moments your ability to speak.
The living room that served as a dining room too, was filled to the brim with bouquets of flowers. Every flat surface that wasn’t arranged in some way was filled with colorful and smelling buds. Looking around, your gaze finally stopped at Genma, who was sitting next to the table, with a toothpick stuck in the corner of his lips formed into a pleased smirk. On the table, you noticed two glasses and a bottle of wine.
“Genma…?” Stuttering you came up closer to him leaving the gifts next to the wine, still couldn’t believe your eyes “W-what’s going on…?”
“Well, you seemed pretty pissed in the morning. I don’t know what I did but…” With a smug grin he placed his hands on your waist and guided you to sit on his lap “I’m sorry?”
Feeling your face was burning you hid in the crook of his neck “Sorry? I should be the one who is sorry...” You mumbled.
“Maybe you’ll tell me what was it all about today’s morning?”
“I… I just had a dream where you cheated on me.” You breathed out almost making one word from the whole sentence, pressing yourself closer to him.
He started to laugh, his whole body shook, voice vibrated in his throat. Genma pulled you into a hug, leaving small kisses on your hair.
“I thought I should apologize somehow, so I bought you a book. And food.”
“Well, I see that. And smell. Damn it smells delicious.” he leaned over the table, almost throwing you off from his laps, senbon landed somewhere on the table “You should dream more like that, I could get used to it.”
“I don’t want to… I dreamed about her... ”
“Oh my sweet babe is jealous,” he cooed, pressing you to his neck. But he couldn't help himself and snort from laughter after a second “I wouldn’t ever do that. Your ass is too pretty to just leave it.”
“My ass? Oh yo-” you wanted to slap his arm, just as a joke, in a fake offense. But before you did, he wrapped his arm around your waist and pulled you into a long slow kiss.
The man purred when you two parted, he brushed the tip of his nose over yours with a smile. “You’re whole too good to be left, love.” He kissed you again before he reached for the goods that you brought to him.
