ch. 6 spinner gives a statement to the archivist
When the character reached the door of my room, I knew ‘The Symbol of Terror’ was waiting for me on the other side of my real life door. He didn’t need to knock. I didn’t feel scared or anything. A little nervous, maybe, I could feel my heart beating hard, but it wasn’t fear. So I got up.
And I opened the door.
My house beyond that door was gone. No hallway, no walls, just a dusty wasteland, flat ground stretching out into the horizon, with nothing in sight. Almost nothing. In the distance I saw a figure. I walked towards it.
It had been a while since I stepped foot outside. I’ve lived in my village for all my life; there was nothing new, ever - I knew where every road leads to, I knew all our neighbors, I went to school with the same kids year after year. I know every greeting and joke and piece of garbage thrown my way, I knew and accepted all their thoughts and feelings they forced upon me, like nails they had to pound into the woodwork of the structure of the community to uphold the life they’ve created for themselves. A life that had never seen me as more than just a lizard, a monster unable to even walk around in human skin. Small cramped places are hard to breathe in, but for me, I suffocated.
