Childe laughs softly, nuzzling into the crook of Lumine’s neck. The sound is both familiar and foreign, like a language learned in childhood but faded slowly with time. She lets the sounds swallow her, drowning herself in the cadence of his merriment, relearning the round sonority and the smooth notes.
“I wasn’t gone for that long.”
We can’t have it all, but maybe we can have a sliver.

Alhaitham can’t say for certain why Cyno’s words bothered him. In a way, the sentiment is unsurprising; Cyno is, after all, dutiful to a fault. It makes sense that he puts his work over himself. Even so, Alhaitham wonders what the shape of Cyno’s happiness would be, if he allowed it to take form. If he ever allowed someone like Alhaitham to witness it.
Which he certainly never would.

So he fit a couple more hours of sleep into his already overfilled schedule and waited for the symptoms of whatever minor ailment he contracted to abate.
