Lance let out a squawk. “Coran didn’t say this was a partner situation!” he hissed in Keith’s ear.
Keith side-eyed him and quirked a brow. “You scared?”
“No!” Lance shot back quickly, folding his arms across his chest and pouting. Cute. “I just was looking forward to kicking your butt,” he admitted after a moment, then immediately straightened his back and put his hands on his hips, the paper crumpling slightly in his grip. His expression shifted to one of determination. Hot. No, God, stop that. “But no use crying over it! We’re gonna win this thing, Kogane. We’re gonna win it so good.”
Keith felt his lips twist into a smirk. “Hell yeah, we are.”

Keith and Lance agree to enter an alien competition for the sake of honoring the planet's culture and fostering an alliance. They don't realize until later that they're not competing against one another--they're partners competing against other teams of two. It only gets stranger as the "trials" they undergo together become suspiciously more and more intimate... but hey, anything for the sake of winning, right?

“You were screaming,” Keith tells him. “I heard you through the wall.”
That wall, Lance wants to point out, is supposed to be soundproof. It shouldn’t let you hear anything, no matter how hard you listen. What he says instead is “I can’t breathe.”
“Take it slow.” Keith’s voice is steady, but as Lance’s eyes struggle to focus his face is a blur. The image goes shaky and then comes clear, shaky then clear, like looking into water. “Pretend it’s low tide. Tell me about the ocean again.”

Summary
One week after news of the Kerberos disaster broke, Pidge receives a new Mark--proof that Matt is still alive. She breaks into the Garrison to find him, only to find herself caught up in the fight for the fate of the universe.
Keith keeps his arms covered so he doesn't have to watch Shiro's scars compounding on his skin--but doing so means cutting off contact with his romantic soulmate, who greets him each morning with a new (and terrible) pickup line.
Shiro and Matt thought they were the luckiest people alive when they found out they were going to Kerberos together. But Shiro hasn't seen Matt's untidy scrawl on his arm in almost a year, and he has no idea if his soulmate is even still alive.
