It is the first fall of snow Beatrice hasn’t had her library to tuck away in. And while she has, perhaps, missed the familiar quiet rows of books on occasion, she has no need for it now.
It would be rather cruel, to hide away in a library while her contractor suffers from illness, even if he did bring it upon himself.
“So mean, Beako.” Subaru’s voice hitches on one of those wheezing, frightening breaths, where it seems his voice has gotten stuck in his chest. “And so dramatic, too. It’s just a little cold.”
Beatrice attempts to take care of Subaru. She's more or less successful.

He was pointing at his chest once again, accusingly and maybe… maybe Kou had something to feel guilty about, after all, despite the mean things he had just said about his friend.

“And! And at this point I feel like I need to remind you myself because-! Because sometimes you act like you actually don't remember. You know we don't, right? Your little freak of a bathroom-pervert friend and me. We’re not growing up with you. We're supernaturals. We're dead.”//: Kou will make Mitsuba a human being, believe it or not. However, this is the story of Mitsuba looking for himself and Kou spending a week inviting him on dates to find him. (Because this is basically what happens.)

Summary
Mitsuba whines like a wounded animal, and as Kou stands up and walks around the table to get to him, he catches a glimpse of his eyes. Something dark and desperate lurks there, and it's the harshest reminder of the fact that his friend isn't actually human that Kou's received in a while. If it weren't for the clear unhappiness written across his face, the wobble of his lips and the shine in his eyes, he might remind Kou a little of Tsukasa.
“You're hungry,” he says faintly. “Actually hungry, not sushi hungry.”
Mitsuba exhales uneasily and lays his head down on the table. “No shit, genius."

There isn’t a Favor Tree there to catch the wish when you make it. There’s no ritual behind it. You don’t even know you’re going to do it until the second you do.
You look up at a curtain of tiny twinkling lights, not fully understanding their place in the family of things but appreciating the stubborn, knife-like way they pierce through the night and shine anyway.
Maybe they’re the ones you’re praying to when you whisper, “We could use a little help.”
The next morning, your group crosses paths with a traveler.
