That's the conversation Hotch wakes up to, soaked in blood and barely conscious on the floor. He doesn't remember how he got there, and he doesn't recognize the voices, but he's about to pass out, and all he can do is hope things are better when he wakes up.

Some things he could override, especially when he wanted Sam dead, but some things remained under all circumstances. So, when Sam woke up in the middle of the night and bolted for the toilet, it really shouldn’t have surprised him that after a mere ten seconds of retching, his hair was being pulled back.
