I'm sure there was a better way to deal with this SecUnit than to jump into space without a full EVAC suit and try to punch it, but that was the best I had. I had to protect my humans, even if those humans included Gurathin. They also included Ratthi, so it was worth it.
Me and the other SecUnit are both equally clueless on how to fight in the vacuum of space, for better or for worse. Better being winning, worse being lost in the vacuum of space as I slowly die.
Gurathin and Ratthi wouldn't risk their lives getting me back, would they?Gurathin wasted one whole second to lift his gaze to me. He looked like he knew he was about to die. I always knew he was an idiot.
Two seconds left.
One second to twist my own helmet off.
Another to bring it down over Gurathin’s head and seal. His shocked expression would have been pretty funny in other circumstances, but I saved it to permanent storage, just in case.

Soulmarks typically presented twice in one's life. Once when you're born, a gift from the universe to help you find your other. Once when that person dies, a curse from the universe, to remind you what you'd lost.
The universe finds constructs weird and confusing and what constitutes death for them even more so. It's not the only one.

Humans have the first words their soul mates will every say magically tattooed to their bodies. It's supposed to make sure they don't miss each other or whatever, but from what I've observed, both in media and by forcibly spying on contract laborers, they're more trouble than they're worth.
Not that I have to worry about that. SecUnits don't get soul marks.

The survey team from the Preservation Alliance was in the middle of a completely unremarkable scientific survey when they got caught up in a string of corporate conspiracies, nearly all died, had their assess saved by the company-mandated SecUnit, and oh, right, discovered that SecUnit a) was sapient, b) rogue the entire time.
And that rogue SecUnit sent them its own recounting of the whole thing.
... Obviously, they have to read said recount as a group.
