The god of the moon has walked his path through the night sky, watching over the little men below for decades on decades, never wondering about whatever god might follow in his path to light the day.
When he begins to wake up earlier and earlier, he catches sight of the beautiful Sun and so begins the quest to either speed up or slow down, so that they might meet someday. So they can eclipse each other.
