Lu Guang doesn't reply, doesn't sigh at Cheng Xiaoshi for being childish. He just cups both his shoulders and leads him onto standing, then directs them to the couch. There, he lets Cheng Xiaoshi lean his head against his shoulder.
They stay like this, quiet. Cheng Xiaoshi closes his eyes, and breathes out.

“You’re displeased,” Kircheis heard from behind him, cutting off his thoughts, but he waited until Reinhard halted his pacing to come join him on the couch to answer. Reinhard sat close, his cape fluttering with the movement. He continued, as though without pause, “Aren’t you?”
Kircheis tilted his head, as though studying Reinhard, looking for something. But he had nothing in mind, not really—he just needed the beat of silence. Reinhard’s face was serious, and he looked tired, his eyes more grey than blue in the low light. But his expression was open, and the rain cohered with the quiet and the late hour to soften him, his mood a near perfect match for the weather. Reinhard was like that, though Kircheis wasn’t sure he noticed, the reactive, responsive way he could mirror the world around him.

On the eve of the Imperial civil war, Kircheis considers the past, and he considers Reinhard.

Atef bandages the scrape along Yusuf’s knee, patting it gently with his hand when he’s done before scooching back to place everything carefully back into the little box.
When he’s done, his eyes flick to the fig seeds drying on Yusuf’s sleeve.
“I’m going to make you a deal,” he says then. “You can pick as many figs as you want, as long as you pick an equal amount for me. I cannot climb as high to reach the figs at the top anymore, so in this you’ll be doing me a favour at least.”
Yusuf goes to shake his head, fear striking his heart.
“I will never climb again,” he swears, with all the finality and graveness of a young boy who will certainly climb again.
A look into some of the ways Yusuf has dodged, (narrowly) avoided, or out-smarted death in his long life – or, a slightly exaggerated but mostly true account of the times Yusuf thought he would die, but didn’t.

To Geralt’s credit, he waits until they’re well away from Kaer Morhen to ask the question. He also waits until Yennefer and Ciri have gone to bed, which makes the whole thing feel a bit too calculated for Jaskier’s liking, which is to say that he doesn’t like it at all .
“Where’s your lute, Jaskier?”
Jaskier doesn’t quite flinch, though his heart does something of the sort all on its own. It is very much a wound that hasn’t healed; as is most of him, these days.
