Summary
The hallway light is off. Right down the hall, though, light spills through the cracks under the nursery door. Robby frowns, pads across hardwood flooring. His hand hovers over the doorknob, and he listens. Coming from inside are little hitched breaths, poorly stifled. A quiet sob follows. Robby opens the door before he can even think.
or
Dennis wets the bed and forgets that he is no longer his father's child. Robby and Jack have to remind him.

Summary
Jack is reeling from the heartbreak of it all. He’s on his, what, fifth whisky of the night? He’s drunk off his ass, and yet it still doesn’t feel like enough. Because his best friend — his Robby — is seeing someone else. And Jack feels the love that he’s been carrying for so long crack, just a little. Hairline fractures along the edges of it, pinpricks of agony up and down his spine.
or
Jack finds out about Robby hooking up with Nurse Hastings. He doesn't take it well.

Summary
The emergency department breathes down Dennis’s neck in hot, rattling bursts.
It shouldn’t bother him as much as it does. Shouldn’t have him sweating through his third pair of scrubs, shouldn’t have his head aching so fiercely. He’s used to it, after all. The urgency with which everyone works, the sorrow that clings to the ceiling tiles, the hospital soaking up grief in greedy pulls like a sponge absorbing water. And it never seems to leave— that grief. Just retreats to the background as white noise. As static.
or
Dennis has a meltdown at work. Robby, fearing the worst, calls in reinforcements.

Summary
Night shift is always hard on Dennis. Working with Abbot is even harder. It's like working with a fucking psychic— somehow, Abbot always looks as if he can see right through him. If he thought Robby was bad, Abbot is ten times worse. Because he pushes. Where Robby pulls back, Abbot takes his place with a fucking battering ram.
It would almost be impressive how perceptive Abbot is if he weren’t so focused on using that ability to strip Dennis right down to the bone, then break those in half like the marrow holds words that Dennis might be hiding.
or
Dennis has epilepsy and not enough medication. Rationing pills can't be that bad for you, right? Jack and Robby will understand. ...Right?

Summary
Nobody warns you about the homesickness that comes after falling.
The torment that follows you like a shadow, clinging, molding to the shape of your flesh. Even after so long of roaming the earth, it haunts him, hovers, suffocates. Mostly in the mornings, though. Always in the mornings. When he is alone with his thoughts, when his lovers are still asleep, when he can’t quite seem to escape his own mind.
or
Dennis longs to be back home. But where is home, really?
