And there it was. A crack in Fyodor’s impenetrable facade. A single twitch of his mouth that would’ve meant nothing on anyone else, but betrayed everything when it was the mastermind in front of him.
“You may be a jester,” warned Fyodor, “but do not think you can lie to me. It is not my blood you lust after.”

Summary
Fyodor speaks of instants: just one is enough to condemn a man's life and turn it into perpetual suffering. Therefore, Nikolai could not kill him in just one; he had to do it in a slow, intimate way to demonstrate his determination in all of them.
They end up in a bathtub that is slowly turning red. While hurting each other in a perverse game, suffering is confused with pleasure and Nikolai's will begins to waver before Fyodor's charms.

Fyodor could predict the actions of anyone, but he could not predict the way Nikolai would make him feel. He could not even begin to comprehend it when his lips began to taste like a poem, like religion, like the very antithesis of sin. And he could not do anything but allow himself to fall asunder.
