He grimaced, his thoughts souring instantly as reality hit him.
His son didn't want to get away from that pervert. His son was probably with that pervert right now, doing gods knew what, completely by choice and his own free will.

The silence between them becomes stiff, and Phainon needs to occupy his hands with something, anything. “I’m in the middle of… researching something,” he says.
Mydei hums. “With the Grove?”
Phainon feels sort-of-bad-sort-of-not for obfuscating the truth: one because it’s Mydei, and the other because the matter is about him confessing to Mydei, you see. He pulls a face. “You could say that.”
Kremnoan Roses aren't real. Probably. Phainon is about ninety-nine percent sure. But after coming across an antique Kremnoan vase, Phainon swears that if he, by some miracle, manages to recreates them, he will confess to Mydei with a bouquet of mythical roses.

“Oh?” Phainon said, interested. “Then I’m definitely winning. There’s no way Mydei knows me more than I know him.”
“Don’t think so highly of yourself, Deliverer.” Mydei hummed, a challenging glint in his eyes. “You’re not that hard to read either, you know.”

“It’s not a burden, Mydei,” Phainon said, truly exasperated. It was rare for him to sound such a way. “Your feelings and your pain are not burdens to anyone, especially not to me. I need you to understand that. Please. I need you to understand that I wouldn’t be standing in front of you right now if I genuinely did not want to.”
Sometimes Mydei wished Phainon would stop talking.
When Mydei bleeds, it's only in Phainon's nature to worry.
