Summary
Steve has never won a fight. He’s had his ass kicked left, right, and center. Hell, Johnathan has kicked his ass. Steve can bat a monster, but when it comes to people? Steve Harrington has never really won a fight.
But that’s because he’s getting put in the wrong kinds of fights. They think he’s a hammer, when really, anyone who grew up BFFs with Carol becomes a scalpel.
(Dustin gapes like a fish. “Holy shit, dude…” Steve would chide language if he thought it would do anything. “You just performed real life Vicious Mockery. I think that guy took psychic damage!”)

Or: someone thinks he’s tough shit and is messing with Steve’s kids. Cue the Boss Battle Music. Mama Steve rips the guy to shreds, as he should.

Summary
After successfully defeating Vecna, the party starts to slowly forget about Steve and replace his presence with Eddie. When Dustin and Robin no longer want to see him, and he is purposefully being left out of the party's affairs, Steve slowly spirals into a bigger mess than he already thought he was.

Summary
After season 2, Steve has been carting the Party around so often that he gets tired of being left out of conversations or talked above like he was too dumb to understand their little Lizards and Whatever game. So he sucks up his pride and seeks out Hellfire to explain it to him, not quite sure what he's getting into.

My take on the "Steve plays DnD" trope, but with my own pizazz of Steve angst and hurt/comfort :).
