The Athena's computer systems failed a year and a half into the mission. Three years later, Jade and Tori are still drifting in high orbit, presumed dead, with no way home and no rescue coming.
They've kept their distance with careful routines and separate lives. Two people sharing a metal coffin without killing each other.
But the ship is dying. And so is their ability to pretend they don't need each other.

When Tori finds out her roommate at NYU was the girl who she most wanted to leave behind in L.A. it is rough.
Tori and Jade argue, they frustrate each other, make the other tick. They fight, until they don’t. Pent-up frustrations between enemies lead to something more until they cross lines they cannot cross, so, to save them from the enevitable, they make a list.
A list of rules they cannot disobey, as they might lead to more than just enemies fucking their frustrations away. Come along as these two break every rule they have written.

“Really, Vega?” Jade asks, arching an eyebrow. Tori simply grins at her, and Jade finds herself being pulled in closer. Tori’s hands are on her face a second later, and then Tori is kissing her.
Softly.
Which isn’t really surprising. Tori always kisses her softly. But there’s actually something behind it, and it makes Jade want to cry sometimes, which she does not like. Tori kisses her gently and softly and like she actually wants to be doing it.
Jade’s not used to that.
Jade kisses her back, probably not as softly. She doesn’t really know how to be soft, let alone do anything soft.

Tori blinks when the Christmas house is suddenly pitch black, and realises that everything is pitch black, actually. She figures that there must have been a power outage, or something.
Jade's body against hers is suddenly very apparent to her, and Tori can only let out a quiet laugh, trying to ignore the noise in her head. Jade laughs back, and then Tori feels her shift. She can feel Jade's breath against her cheeks. It’s probably the closest that they’ve ever been, and it’s leaving Tori breathless.
Jade’s hands are suddenly on her face.

It had been months since the world had fallen into chaos. The once bustling cities were now hauntingly silent, their streets overrun by the undead.
“You’re acting a little too calm about all this, Jade.” Tori couldn’t move from the corner she currently slumped in. She spoke in a small, quiet voice, not wanting to be too loud.
She was afraid those things would hear her.
“If I’m not calm then who will be?” She said, a tone of urgency in her voice. Tori swallowed hard. Jade’s eyes locked onto Tori’s momentarily, pausing her packing. She watched as Jade adjusted her jaw before going back to her task.
“I have clothes that you can use,” Tori watched the other girl throw comfortable clothes into both packs.
“They’re mostly black,” Jade looked back at her again, giving her a quick once over.
“You’ll live.” The casual banter made Tori feel a bit better — but there was nothing hiding the feeling of fear, no matter how hard you try to ignore it. She could see fear even in the fearless goth girl’s hands, as they shook lightly with every movement. ‘You’ll live’, she repeated in her head. How ironic.
“Jade, I —“
“I know, Vega. I know.” Tori didn’t hear the usual bite in her voice.
