“I think I have something,” Reid says.
Hotch lolls his head to face him. Reid’s shirt is sodden, adhered to the notches of his ribs. The fabric is translucent in the dips of his clavicle. His tie is loose around his unbuttoned collar. Sleeves pushed up above his elbows, everything about him looks lazy, almost. Like he just walked out of a photoshoot for a luxury brand selling a languid lifestyle.
“What?” Hotch says after a beat too long.
Reid’s shoulders fall. “Never mind.” He scrubs the whiteboard clean with his wrist. “Sorry.”
Three bodies drop in sugarcane country, Louisiana. The heat is a crime of its own, Hotch can't sleep, and Reid might just be able to help.

His eidetic memory had downsides. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't forget the smell in the shack, or the sound of the revolver clicking as he choked on his own sobs. He couldn't forget the sight of Hankel's face, hard and unrelenting as he forced Spencer to confess.
And mostly, he's good at dealing with it. It's been years since his problem had been, well- a problem.
But addiction isn't linear, and he has to remember that.
Or; Spencer was an addict. Ethan doesn't know, and Spencer doesn't know how to tell him.

“I dunno,” Ethan shrugs, looking around Spencer's apartment for inspiration. “What do you usually do for fun?”
Spencer makes a face. He points to the far wall, at the expansive bookcase running along it.
“Read,” he says flatly.
Ethan grimaces, shaking his head. He turns his back on the shelves.
"Loser," he mutters, as Spencer grins up at him.
