Summary
“So hey, what do you think happens if you don't jump into the black hole again at the end of this loop?” you say.
“Huh. That’s a good question,” you reply.
You keep standing there, listening to the rush of the supernova as it slowly burns the planet around you.
“Something bad happens, doesn’t it?”
“Something really, really bad.”

Summary
“What do you need, Nim?” you say.
“I don’t know, I don’t know,” they say, shaking their head hard enough that tears fling from their chin. “I need— I need more, Gabbro.”
You wrap your arms around their shaking frame, but it only lasts a moment before they squirm and push away from you. “No, no, that’s not it. I’m sorry, I don’t know, I’m trying to think of what…”
“That’s the problem,” you say softly, pulling back but keeping your hands on them. “Don’t try to think. Just feel, Nim. What do you need?”

Summary
“Hey, I thought I might see you before the big launch,” you call out as they approach you. “Nerves getting the better of you?”
They don't reply, just... look at you for a while. They slowly scan over your clothes, your hands, your face, lingering at your scarred eye.
You arch a brow at them. “Need something, hatchling?”
Eventually, they settle within themself, square their shoulders, and look at you. “Think you can give me a hand with something for a minute?”
or - a series of goodbyes that didn't stick.

Summary
“Do you really have to go to work today?” you say, trying not to whine.
Dad mumbles before clearing his throat. “I am sorry, Solanum, but the project is at a very important stage. I promise to return as soon-”
“But you always have to leave!” you interrupt.
He gives you a small smile, but it looks sad. Suddenly, his face changes, his eyes growing wide with an idea. “Solanum, I have a proposition for you.”

Summary
Canna’s statements aren’t anything you didn’t already know. Clem had the Vessel meet hers in the Gloaming Galaxy weeks ago. You can see it through the main view screen off in the distance, the binary Blackrock suns burning just out of sight to the left.
Fluvia, the lead astronomer, had promised they were as stable as could be hoped for, that they should last at least another few years, as if that was a solace. As if there was a plan of action to survive once they burn out like all the other stars are starting to.
You’re broken from your cycle of self-pity by a ringing, discordant tone behind you. A distress signal?

Summary
So Gabbro’s always gotten a giggle or two out of a twisted situation. So Shale’s getting more morbid by the hour. So they’re both more than a little sick in the head by now.
All this to say—you can’t really blame them for making the joke, can you?

Summary
At long last the Hearthians are ready to explore beyond their solar system, with the help of reverse-engineered Nomai warp technology. Four brave souls - Feldspar, Gabbro, Chert and Riebeck - have volunteered for the trip. They’ll go further than any Hearthian has ever been before, leaving behind everything they have ever known.
What could possibly go wrong?
(No-time-loop AU, in which Bad Things Happen and I take any excuse to continue writing Gabbro & Chert awkwardly flirting in space, but in-person this time.)

Summary
“Come on, get up. We’re going together.”
Riebeck’s fingers falter on their instrument. A note bends in the melody. “Uh, sorry? I don’t, you want me to…?”
You lift your gaze up. The bridge is practically framing their spherical helmet, almost mockingly close. Nothing shaken loose yet.
“The Hanging City,” you say. “You always wanted to see it, right? So we’re going. Right now.”

Summary
“Don’t you ever get tired of laying in this hammock every loop?” You ask, shifting against Gabbro’s chest until you can peer up at their emotionless visor.
“Sometimes,” They sigh, tugging you a little closer and settling their hands over your back, “Why? Got something in mind?”
“I thought maybe you’d like a change of scenery for once. I’ve got some blankets in the ship and I’m sure I can sneak some decent snacks from Porphy’s place.” You bump their shoulder with yours playfully, “Maybe we could go on a picnic next loop?”
They hum thoughtfully for a moment before you can practically hear their smile as they say
“Sure. Why not! Let’s go on a picnic, buddy!"

orHatchling feels something weird in their chest everytime they hang out with Gabbro, so in attempt to figure it out they invite Gabbro out on a picnic

Summary
Mornings in the Arctic are cold, silent, and simple. In those early mornings, it is hard to tell that you are truly alive.
For Wilbur Soot, that is too much.
(Or: healing, through doorstep-sitting and wing preening.)
