Summary
John raises a finger to his lips. “Shhhh. Don’t want the world to hear,” he says, meaning to sound mocking, in control, but it comes out all ache.
Blue eyes stare back, wide and pleading. They say— John, don’t. They say— please.
And John loves him.
But even as he says it, he knows he’s handing himself the knife. Something in him breaks open on the way out, and he knows it won’t close again. He knows the echo of it will follow him, soft and ruinous.
