Summary
“You know,” Falco says, voice low and contemplative, “I didn’t think I’d make it this far.”
Lucy thinks back to her first day on the moon, all alone in the quiet. She remembers how her fingers had twitched, on the verge of taking off her helmet. How close she’d been to letting go right then and there.
The memory of that moment feels like a distant echo now.
She doesn’t look away when the sun finally crosses the horizon line, chasing away the last traces of night. The world begins to reform in bits and pieces, everything awash in light and color. Some of that light reaches her too and unearths something deep.
She breathes out the softest of sighs as the stars blink out of existence. “Me neither.”
Lucy, after.

Summary
“Is that what you really think?” There’s less bite to her words than what she would’ve wanted but Rin suddenly feels the anger bleed out of her all at once like an open wound. “That I’m not afraid every time I’m out there?”
Flying was my escape, she wants to say but doesn’t. That had sounded like what you’d tell someone when you let them in, so she settles for something else. “Flying’s the only time I don’t think about dying.”
“Funny,” he says, and maybe it really isn’t that funny at all because there’s gravity in his voice and in the space between them; she feels the force that must've kept them in orbit the same way tides have always turned towards the moon. Rin takes a chance when she reaches out and places her hand at the crook of his neck, spreading her palm against the hollow of his throat. Nezha swallows and Rin trails her fingers up until she reaches his lips.
“I think about it all the time,” he confesses. His voice is low, the sound muffled in the palm of her hand where it cups his jaw. “And then,” Nezha continues, mouthing the words against her skin, “I think about you.”
—
Rin learns that there’s more to flying than fighting.

Summary
What Nezha has, it’s an absence. He was raised next to the river, in a city that knew the ebb and flow of the tide. The flood would come in the summer, a wet and hungry thing, swallowing shorelines before breaching the city. He feels the same way now, when the water had receded suddenly, violently; left only the traces of what once was. Nezha did not need the Dragon to teach him that lesson—he’d lived it all on his own.
Water, he says to Kitay, doesn’t know how to let go. It only drowns.

Summary
“I could kill her, y’know,” Ransom offers sweetly over brunch. Marta hides her heavy swallows between sips of tea and greeting the Wellingtons sitting down at the adjacent table. They’re in public; surrounded by polite high society. They could be overheard from any direction. Ransom only yawns, flexing his wedding band, leaning in to whisper again. “I’d slit her throat with a steak knife and take those gaudy earrings while I’m at it… They’d look better on you.”

Ransom forgets to stand after. He just, sort of remains there. He stares at the diamond like it’s not real, like he feels like he’s somewhere else. He’s learned something, discovered something, and he can’t go back.
Marta leaves him right where he is, trance and all. She’ll never admit it, but there’s part of her that likes the view.

And finds himself pouring her a drink almost against his will. Tate Langdon, introverted English professor, meets Violet Harmon at a dinner party. Basically a PWP. AU Violet/Tate, Rated M.

Summary
Waverly flips idly through her file, and she has half a mind to grab it from his hands. She’s never seen it, but she finds being so closely examined, so critically documented, very annoying. “No more quarrels with Kuryakin, then?” he asks. “Your early reports painted a less-than-flattering picture.”
Gaby keeps her voice even when she replies, “It just took time.”

Bookmarker's Notes
Never mind the fact that they never say that word—love. It’s a word with teeth, Gaby thinks. Too big, too menacing, too definite. It feels sharp and barbed in her mouth, like if she’s not careful it’ll do damage coming out.
“No,” he says, but he’s forgetting she can see clean through all that ice and scar tissue.
