Summary
“Arthur froze.
He was still recognisable, just by his clothes, just by his walk, just by his hands, white, brittle nails, covered in dirt. He was the only one to realise, it seemed, but how could Arthur not know him? He knew him like the sun rising in the East, knew him like the colour of the sky, or the shape of his own teeth. Arthur had learned him like a secret, kept him as a promise, known him as a fact. He knew this man, even before he was shoved to his knees in front of the dais.
It was Merlin.
Merlin, who was supposedly dead. Yet there he was.”
OR: During a bandit attack, Merlin dies risking his life for his now-heartbroken prince. But when Merlin returns to Camelot, alive and unharmed, more than one secret is revealed, and more than one betrayal is made…
OR: Merlin dies. A LOT. Until Arthur finally gets his royal head out of his royal ass.
WARNING: Since I am lazy, and since there is graphic death in this, I will be putting the trigger warnings for each chapter in the end chapter notes when necessary to save spoilers.

He must be. It was the only explanation for the crushing weight of reality that was pressing on his lungs and turning his veins into ribbons of molten fire. The impossibility of the situation made certain that his mind was under some sort of cruel facade.
Because Merlin was dying. Dying… and Arthur could do nothing.”
OR: Arthur has a nightmare, and is desperate for some comfort.
This was basically the basis for the fic I am currently writing, so parts of this (or the entire thing) may make another appearance later! Think of this as a taster fic!

Summary
After a kiss caused by mead and years of longing, Arthur realises that Merlin has magic but doesn't tell him. He finds that he can't stop loving Merlin and now that he knows just how heavy a weight he's been carrying, he can't stop comforting in his darkest times, either - despite Merlin being unwilling to start officially courting out of fear and concern for what would happen if Arthur knew. Little does he know all Arthur wants is to make it better. It all turns out sweet in the end.
