Geologists in faraway places blinked and studied their monitors, wondering why London was suffering a minor earthquake. Pigeons that had been nesting on the chimney hooted in terror and headed for the safety of the open heavens.

He leaned forward, picking up the salt-shaker. He glanced around; there was a young couple smiling at each other at the nearest table, but no one else was around. “Watch this.” He ground a bit of salt onto the candle. The flame flickered, then turned blue-tinged at the edges. I sucked in a breath, watching the green-blue glow.
“Oh, that’s gorgeous.”
I looked up, smiling, and met his eyes over the little flame.
“Science,” he said quietly.

Molly turned toward him, “So what do we do? Go straight to Mycroft? Tell him what you’ve seen?”
Sherlock's tone sharpened, “No. Not yet. If his channels are watched, if they’re listening, we’d be dead before he could act. Until I understand who’s pulling strings, we vanish entirely.”
He added, “This means it’s good that you came with me. They also know that you assisted in this. They might have been waiting for you at your flat.”
She whispered, “Oh God. So what now?”
He said simply, “We disappear. No safehouse. No Mycroft. Our safety net is compromised, until we figure out what’s gone wrong, we can’t trust anyone. We’re on our own.”
On the run and hunted at every turn, Sherlock and Molly must trust only each other. Every step, every word could betray them, and survival depends on wit, courage, and the fragile bond that keeps them together.

Remus stumbled over the uneven ground and screwed up his eyes against the constant threat of sand-on-the-wind, and held out one little hand, clawed and numb by the cold, for Lyall to take so he could tug him up the ridge and they could both look out into the wild sea with the wind threatening to tip them over.
Anyway, they'd had a false Spring, that year, and the daffodils had bloomed early - before Remus' birthday, even.
And then the attack happened and nothing felt inevitable anymore, except the wax and wane of the moon.
