Summary
Since Sam took up the shield, he's been busy. Being Captain America is a full time job, he doesn't get much free time.
And Bucky? Bucky's struggling. Lonely and depressed, stuck in his apartment, missing Sam, he's lost the positivity he had when he left Delacroix.
So when Sam invites him to Louisiana, Bucky jumps at the chance. Sam just needs to make a quick stop on the way to the airport to check out a lead.
But things don't work out as planned, and when they find themselves trapped in a walk in freezer, Bucky faces a desperate battle to keep Sam alive.
(There's whump here, but there is a lot of angst and pining too)

At the tavern, he'd tried to get drunk, hoping he'd get a good night's sleep at last, but for some reason the alcohol didn't seem to be working.
Resigned to another sleepless night, Bucky was surprised when Steve appeared in the bunk house, taking him outside for a heart to heart and some much needed comfort.

It was a mistake, a stupid slip of the tongue. But when Bucky says Steve's name in bed, it makes Sam think. It makes him question Bucky's reasons for being with him.
Can Bucky convince Sam that he loves him? Bucky hopes so. Because if he can't, he stands to lose everything he cares about.
(This starts just after Bucky and Sam have had sex, and there is a slight reference to that, but there are no descriptions of sex in the story.)

Bucky stares at the linoleum beneath his beat-up converse. The two tiles right under his feet are worn-in, pale greyish-brown, where the other ones are still a light, speckled cream. He really should buy new sneakers. Once he doesn’t have to dig through the couch cushions to scrounge up enough cash to buy a loaf of bread, he’ll start putting some money aside for a new pair. Maybe he’ll just give these ones a good scrubbing with an old toothbrush or something. As soon as he has the money for a new toothbrush.

Bucky doesn’t trust the asset. The asset doesn’t understand Bucky. The only thing they can both agree on a hundred percent of the time is this: They both would go to the ends of the earth for Steve Rogers.
