Slowly, Optimus shook his helm, pulling his servo out of his grip. “That will not be enough. I cannot afford to be a normal mech.” He caught his gaze and held it, and Ratchet saw a sadness hidden deep in his optics. “I cannot have weaknesses, Ratchet.”
The Matrix requires a mech who will be impartial—one who will make choices for the benefit of all Cybertronians, no matter the personal cost.
Ratchet hates it.

Megatron stalked closer. “What I am getting at, my dear Prime—” He hooked a claw under Optimus's chin, to which he responded by pressing a blaster to the side of his chassis. The warlord ignored it, leaning forward to whisper into his audial.
“—is that I fragged your medic.”
Megatron corners Optimus, taunting him with explicit description of every dirty detail of his one-night stand with Ratchet. Optimus can only listen uncomfortably, envious and more than a little turned on, until Megatron mentions just whose name Ratchet called out…
Optimus goes to find Ratchet after that, determined not to let his dear friend suffer another klick of thinking his longing is unrequited. It turns out, this was just the push that they needed.

Orion Pax awakens on an unfamiliar planet with no memory of the past 4 million years, where he's told by Megatronus, one of his best friends, that Ratchet, his other best friend, has become an evil tyrant. Except he soon discovers that he's bonded with Ratchet, and how can he be a cold-sparked killer when his spark feels so warm?
Already struggling with the conflict between his care for Ratchet and the belief that he's now evil, Orion begins to realize that what he feels through the bond doesn't quite align with Megatron's story.

Summary
He’d love to feel Orion’s spark, in that moment, to cup the casing with both of his servos while he gently coaxed the shell open with a thumb digit. To open his own chassis and merge completely with Orion Pax. To become One, just as Orion always wanted their society to be. It felt only natural.
Yet, he couldn’t, not right now. Ratchet was busy, Orion was busy, the world itself was busy. They simply weren’t ready for that kind of commitment, not yet at least. He was sure in his spark that some day they would be bonded, but today would not be that day.
Ratchet could settle for the next best option though.
Ratchet and Orion steal some time away together in order to escape the stresses weighing heavy on their sparks, and the medic takes this opportunity to show his best friend (and soul-mate!) just how much he cares for him.
