Summary
Clint Barton finds himself on the back foot when he's called in to capture Captain Rogers, but the next step finds him running from everything he used to know. It's up to arrows and miracles for the famed archer to make his way out of Hydra's clutches.
“Captain Rogers has gone off-grid,” the voice said. “He’s a fugitive of S.H.I.E.L.D.”
Clint’s brain froze for a moment as it jumped from the lingering desire to curl back into bed with the sudden news. A frown set in the more Clint thought over the words.
“I’m sorry,” Clint finally managed, “did you just say that Captain America is a fugitive from S.H.I.E.L.D?”
“Yes.”
“Is this a joke?” Clint asked. God, please let it be some poor joke on Rogers’ part to mess with him since he got back in DC.
“Agent Barton, I repeat that Rogers is a fugitive. You are being called in for assignment. Do you accept, or should I send word to Pierce that you’re refusing?”
Pulling the phone away from his ear, Clint hit his head softly against the wall. The wheels in his head were spinning, a whispered “shit” coming out every time he bumped his forehead. This was not how he wanted to start his day.

Natasha froze. For a split second it seemed like the ice was hesitating, like it hadn’t made up its mind whether to hold or break. Then it gave another a wet crunch, and with a desperate sound Clint heaved himself towards her as it disintegrated under him. But he was too far away, and his fingertips scrabbled uselessly against hers. Then he was in the water again. Under the surface again. And this time he didn’t resurface.
OR
Natasha is of the opinion that one should try to avoid falling through the ice. Especially when the ambient temperature has plummeted well below freezing. And there's nowhere around to get warm and dry. And the water turns into a whitewater rapid a stone’s throw downstream. It's just common sense.
In Clint's defense, he was dodging a bullet.

Summary
Natasha Romanoff and Clint Barton, both spies, assassins, and elite SHIELD agents turned Avengers (though Clint isn't really sure how that ever happened), have to learn how to deal with increasingly complicated professional lives while their personal lives start to get in the way. On the trail of an international arms dealer that seems to always stay one step ahead of SHIELD, they start to realize they are falling for each other- the hard way- and have to deal with the consequences. Obviously, problems arise, because for Strike Team Delta, it just wouldn't be any fun if everything actually went according to the plan.
When their mission goes wrong, can it, and their partnership, be salvaged? Or have their lives spiraled too far out of control?
