“Lily,” Hayden says automatically. “You know about Lily?”
Something flickers across Rozanov’s face. His jaw twitches. “Yes, I know about Lily.” He raises his eyebrows.
Hayden feels like a complete asshole, all of a sudden. There’s just been too much going on to even think about Shane’s mystery girlfriend. “Shit, I should probably, like, call her, or something? I don’t know this girl at all, but Shane’s been obsessed with her for years. If she was watching the game, she would have seen him get hurt.”
“You don’t need to call her,” Rozanov says, and when Hayden glances at him, he still looks fucking miserable but now he’s rolling his eyes, a much more familiar expression of disdain on his face. “She’s sitting right here.”

Summary
On his worst days, when he felt at his lowest, he was reminded of his mother. When the world comes crashing down around him, when he feels like he’s drowning in how impossible everything is, he knows he is his mothers son, and understands why she couldn’t take it any longer.
When he was younger he had wished he could carry all his mothers sadness for her, take all the hurt she had to bear and bear it himself. He thinks some days that he got his wish, and when she left him that day she left all her sadness with Ilya.
There was nothing he could say that wouldn’t be entirely too little, when the feeling itself was all encompassing. Ilya loved his mother, and she died, and now he has to hold that love in his heart forever, with nowhere else to put it. It hurt to hold on to, weighed him down and made his chest feel heavy. What else was he supposed to do? He could never put it down.
