“Why would Zhangmen-shixiong need such a powder?” Liu Qingge asks, frowning. Like both of them, Yue Qingyuan is functionally immortal, his life force self-sustaining by means of his golden core.
“Oh, I thought it might help with his Xuan Su problem,” Shen Qingqiu says blithely.
Liu Qingge blinks in confusion. “His what?”
Shen Qingqiu waves his hand. “You know… how whenever he draws his sword it drains his life force, slowly killing him?”

While dosed with poison, Shen Qingqiu accidentally tells Liu Qingge about Yue Qingyuan’s problematic bond with the Xuan Su sword. Liu Qingge, in turn, decides to do something about it.

Steve grits his teeth, continues to stare at the ground as they walk, pretending it’s to make sure he doesn’t trip. “Nothing, we’re good.”
“Right,” Dustin says, so dryly that Steve wonders if he’ll ever hear any other tone besides that and anger from him. “We’re so good you won’t even look at me.”
Something snaps in Steve’s gut, that red-hot rage that’s been sitting there since Dustin showed up hours ago looking like a punching bag. “Oh, I’m surprised you care,” he said. “You’ve made it pretty clear you don’t give a shit about what I have to say.”

When Shen Yuan dies, cursing the disappointing ending of Proud Immortal Demon Way, he wakes up to find himself inside the story, as a demon NPC. Which is pretty cool, as far as transmigration experiences go! The only problem is that his character is trapped in the form of a dragon-like beast, alone in a half-ruined castle. But he adapts, keeping to himself aside from one quick trip to the human realm that triggers a minor plot deviation with major consequences.
After that experience, Shen Yuan retreats into solitude again… until the Immortal Alliance Conference, where he decides to intervene more intentionally in Luo Binghe's fate. After taking the young protagonist under his wing, however, he’s surprised to learn just how much the story has already diverged from its origins.
And he and Luo Binghe are both surprised when the Bai Zhan War God, Liu Qingge, tracks them down—determined to ‘rescue’ the disciple who once saved his life.
