“What are you doing all the way down there?”
Catra blinks sleepily at the bunk above her (the bunk that is supposed to be her bunk), and the squints sleepily at the source of the voice.
It’s Adora, her eyes not even open, wiggling her hand pathetically in Catra’s direction.
Catra’s body obeys the unspoken request before she can think better of it, and finds herself suddenly wrapped in Adora’s arms, Adora’s face inches from hers.
Adora smiles, and presses their lips together while Catra’s brain short-circuits.
Catra's brain spins and spins for some sort of rhyme or reason (what if Shadow Weaver sees them like this, what if Lonnie sees them like this what if—), until she realizes that—
Oh.

But Catra yawns and drops down at the foot of their bunk. Her under-eyes are smudged with dark circles from nights of planning and scouting and preparing. And she looks up at Adora with her mismatched gaze—exhausted, but hopeful.
Adora sets the pen down, leaves the paper blank.

Summary
“Are you gonna help me with this or not?” Adora asks, rising onto her tiptoes so she can actually reach the top of the sodding tree that Catra had warned was gonna be too tall to decorate without a step ladder.
“Not.” Catra replies from where she’s sprawled inelegantly over the couch. Her tail swaying languidly over the cushions.
Adora huffs lightly. Before, and it’s with an uncharacteristic level of caution, slipping the white and gold bauble in place on a branch above her head. “That’s not very helpful.”
“I never claimed to be,” Catra disputes, folding her arms. “Besides, you’re the one who wanted the tree, I didn’t sign up for any of this grunt work.”
Adora, ironically, grunts like she’s finally accepting the refusal. Which is a shame really, because Catra doesn’t think it would have taken much more for her to have rolled her eyes and joined her.

Summary
Everything fell apart so suddenly. First, the ship was attacked. Then Catra and Adora started arguing. And now Adora is quite literally being hunted—and unable to turn into She-Ra to properly defend herself.
How could it have gone so wrong so quickly?
Of course, Catra knows the answer. Just as Glimmer and Bow had known the answer, and tried to warn her.
The jacket. If Catra hadn’t destroyed Adora’s stupid lucky jacket, none of this would have happened.
(In other words: A fashion-forward Catra attempts to dispose of Adora’s crusty-ass Horde jacket. Chaos ensues.)

“That sounds exactly like what someone who likes She-Ra would say,” Adora interjects with a quirk of her eyebrow, making Catra gulp at the expression.
Bow and Glimmer look at each other, and then immediately grin uncontrollably, holding their hands to prance around and chant: “Catra likes She-Ra! Catra likes She-Ra!”
Alternatively: Before their space road trip, the Best Friend Squad goes around Etheria to help their people rebuild. It starts to annoy Catra how so many girls keep flirting with her girlfriend. When accused of jealousy, Catra claims that she just doesn’t see the hype, that she doesn’t personally find She-Ra sexy. Adora is determined to prove her wrong. (post season 5)

Adora decides that she's ready to be a parent. She wanted to be the only person in Adora’s hurricane, the only person pulled into the vortex. She was livid when anyone else got close enough to be caught in the wind tunnel.
It took the end of the world to realize she was never in Adora’s vortex, as she had once liked to think of it (all consuming, painful, inescapable). There was never any reason to fight or claw or scream for her place within her storm. She was never caught in the wind, swinging out wildly, hands reaching for her, for golden, darling Adora, who Catra had wanted so badly, she was willing to die out in the gale.

Why did it take until now to realize that she wasn’t in the hurricane? She was in the eye. She had always been there."

Laughter ripped from Catra’s throat. She tossed her head back, fangs bared in open-mouthed giggles. “Wow, you really don’t want to go with me. The Rebels kick our asses every year.”
“That’s not true!” Indignation sparked and died in Adora’s blue eyes. “Well, we almost had them last year.”
“Almost isn’t winning, Adora. Besides, if we don't win,” asked Catra, shuffling to fit her arms into the sleeves of Adora’s letterman as discreetly as possible, “what’s in it for me?”
Adora blinked. “What do you want?”

Not that she was stupid enough to say that.
______________In just a year, high school senior Catra has overcome everything the universe managed to throw at her — a manipulative parent, a broken system, a ruined friendship. If only she could get over something as stupid as a crush.
