“Who is Finney Mason Blake?” Nancy turned to Steve.

“Uh…” he ran a hand through his hair. “Me?”

    “You?” Rob raised an eyebrow.

“Yeah, I mean… Steve Harrington isn’t my birth name,” he grimaced, realizing he had forgotten to mention that.

Or: The Party watches The Black Phone and learns a lot of new things about Steve. Maybe a little too many.

Will fed his coin into the payphone and punched in the familiar number for the Tozier-Kaspbrak residence. It rang twice before a strangled voice asked, “Hello?”

    “Eddie?” Will said breathlessly. “Ed?”

“Will, is that really you?” Eddie asked. Will was gutted when he realized Eddie was crying.

“Will?!” Richie yelled in the background. “Is that him?”

“Guys, it’s me,” Will said. “I’m here.”

“Will, we went to your house and there were fucking bullet holes and police tape everywhere,” Eddie frantically said. “We thought you were dead!”

    Summary

“You have to come home, Richie.” He said, voice short like he’d practiced this a thousand times through.

    Of course.

There was that sharp reminder that it hadn’t been long enough. It had been seventeen years since they’d fought IT last, and if Ben had been correct then it would be twenty-seven years. So what had changed? Now of course his friends would probably have a few thousand theories, though most would end in him tied to a chair in the basement to prevent him from trying to be some sort of sacrifice all over again. He’d show, of course, which meant leaving suddenly without telling his friends.

It still hadn’t been long enough though. He was twenty-eight, he lived alone in his apartment and barely visited where he was from anymore before it carried things he hadn’t been able to handle for the last twelve years of his life.

Nothing he’d done since he was eleven had been normal, which maybe made this better than it had been back then. He was more prepared at least.

But he wasn’t supposed to be, was he?

    Summary

It’s outlandish. It’s implausible. It’s beyond the scope of man, beyond the imagination of children. He wants to shake his head, wants to dismiss it the same way they would laugh at the end of each campfire story, the same way folks would turn their noses up at the talk from the old miners who see things in the coal dust and dark and heat, because everyone sees something in the mine. That’s just the nature of the shadow.

Deciding to find his own answers, Wayne picks the wrong (or perhaps very right) moment to return to his trailer.
