I blame Jensen and Misha for this. I was destiel shipper cockles curious before Jibcon8 now I’m a full blown cockles whore. It took about 60 hours to write this in four days (I was possessed) and I’ve been massaging the text for the past two, three weeks? Has it been that long, really? So I need to stop and just put this out here.A shout out goes to my girls on "all things destiel and cockles 18+" on facebook for helping me with beta and some ideas.

"Sad Lisa" by Cat Stevens comes on and he recognizes it as a song he's heard before and this is a stream of consciousness from Cas as the song plays.

Except that maybe he is. And maybe Cass is somehow falling in love for the first time since his soulmate died five years ago. Which he could handle – probably….
Except that he’s also beginning to have a strange series of nightmares and flashbacks to a whole separate life he never lived, in an apocalyptic hellscape with a version of Dean he barely recognizes. And once he starts to notice, the whole world begins to seem…just a little off.
Cass is the happiest he’s ever been, and he’s also losing his mind. It’s a very weird year.

When he wakes up with a strait-laced but very cute businessman named Dean Smith, he’s ready to declare success and walk away. My Comment: I'm not sure I can word good after this. This is arguably the best destiel fan fic I've ever read. I have been reading destiel non-stop since 2016. I've read hundreds of stories. This is so good that I have brow beaten my house mate into agreeing to read this. He's not interested in gay porn but to me this is not that. This is an incredible piece of writing. I would nominate this for a Hugo award if I could. Honestly, there is so much I want to say about it but I don't know where to start. spoilers: The most powerful part of this story is Chuck explaining to Cas that he (Cas) chose to be... in misery..? He chose his pain, he refused to give up his torment. Siting here writing this, I realize that while it feels absolutely canon that Cas would identify with Buddhism as his chosen "faith", it's also the one thing he could not practice. Like, he just could not let go of that anger... resentment... expectations that God should not allow the suffering which we know is a part of life. I love that Chuck says basically "[sic] I couldn't get you to let that go". I feel like it's true that Dean would choose to forget; his life was a nightmare, even before Cas rescued him from Hell, he lived through so much trauma. Upon reflection I'm surprised he's still functional in the show. But that's TV for you. This story is so beautiful and the writing is so tight. At this point I will probably just start gushing so I'll quit while I'm ahead. But seriously WOW! (read 8/2019, 5/2022, 1/2024) -

Summary
When Dean’s best friend Charlie suggests that he take a course on fiction at the local college, he decides to give it a try. Thinking it could be beneficial for his job at the library and also give him the inspiration he needs to continue writing, Dean signs up for Professor Novak’s Science Fiction and Fantasy class. What he wasn't expecting was for the professor to be a fantasy himself. All sex hair, black liner, and tattooed in poetry, Dean is lucky he can swallow in his teacher’s presence, let alone speak sanely and intelligently. He may be the oldest student in the class, but Professor Novak merely has to look at Dean with those deep blue eyes lined in black kohl to turn him into a stuttering teenager with a crush.
Luckily for Dean, Professor Novak doesn't seem to mind at all.

Summary

This was so sweet. I really enjoy stories where Dean is already past his coming out homophobic freak out. That part of Dean's story is so tired. So this was really great. I also found it refreshingly unique where Dean already loves Cas and not only does Cas have no idea but he doesn't even know Dean. This was really well done. Bravo!
