Finney, who was looking over his most recent problems he’s assigned him, paused. He didn’t need to ask who he was in reference to. Of course he knew. He saw him in Ernesto’s face every day. He paused momentarily. “Yes,” he said quietly. “Of course I do.”
A silence weighed the air as Ernie slowly reached for his hand, but he practically jolted away as if Ernesto’s touch burned him.
“I can…I can help,” he offered quietly. Finney stared for a long moment and he had that same look. The one that he’d seen, with the same tint of his cheeks. Finn shot up from his place.

Finney awkwardly ripped some toilet paper off the roll and handed it to him. “For your…” his voice trailed off. He set the stuff down carefully and took them, wiping his eyes.
“Thanks.” It was tense for a moment before Ernesto choked out shoulder shaking sobs, making Finn freeze. Fuck. Finney could barely handle the feeling of his skin on another’s, how could he handle a crying Ernesto Arellano? He can’t, that’s how.

All he can think about are the marks he woke up with this morning, and how he’s going to be sick if he touched Gwen—
Then he realizes. The handprint is too small to be his, it probably doesn’t even belong to an adult. He exhales shakily, and Gwen pulls her arm away.

Ernesto, by contrast, looks relieved at Mando being here. "Um, Gwen, did you have any dreams?" he asks. "Because, uh, I woke up and-" his face flickers, and he lifts his shirt a bit.
Finn nearly vomits on the spot. If it weren't for the fact that there's nothing left in his stomach, he's sure he would've. Handprints burned into Ernie's waist. Just above the waist of his flannel pajama pants. Big and matching the ones on Finn's thighs. He gags, covering his mouth with a shaking hand.
"That's frostbite," Mando says, voice dropping the cheer he had clearly been trying to keep up. "Sit down, we need to treat that immediately."
Ernie sits, and Finn wants to scream at him for being so open with it. Like he doesn't seem to understand what it means. Robin, Robin is sitting on that bunk and staring accusingly at Finn. Still thirteen, forever thirteen, and he's pissed because Finn let the same thing that happened to both of them happen to Ernesto. He hopes Robin kills him for it.

The moment stretches, taut and terrible. Finney’s hands are trembling, his chest a furnace of heat and panic and something older, something rotten that’s been fermenting in him since Robin disappeared.
“You fucking—you look like him,” Finney spits again, voice low and cracking and breaking like a tree branch imploding underneath it’s own weight. Self-sabotage in all its chaos and glory. And before Ernesto can react, Finney’s fist jerks forward like the movement is intrinsic and practiced to its core—a sharp hit to the jaw, the sound of impact splitting the air, and then another.
Ernesto staggers back, hands up, wide-eyed like a deer under the interrogative gaze of headlights, but he doesn’t fall. Not at first. His mouth cracks open, a sharp gasp, but Finney barely hears it over the whirling storm inside his own skull. He swings again, a wild, desperate motion, the world around him tilting, blurring. He’s not even aiming anymore—just striking at the air, at the memory, at the grief that’s taken shape and manifested horribly, devastatingly as the boy standing in front of him.
Or; Finney misses Robin. Ernesto suffers the consequences.

It happened quickly, the kind of quick that you think is impossible until you live it. You hear about abductions, about parents turning away for a split-second and their children disappearing into thin air, and you think they must be justifying their own neglect. Surely, they must have not been watching close enough if someone could steal their kid out from under their nose. Of the two of them, Finney is sure his dad would be glad to see him go. Robin has his mom and his uncle, and he stands tall and stubborn and proud in a way that Finney thinks means he's never gotten hit by someone who was supposed to protect him. He doesn't resent Robin for that. The idea of someone hurting Robin the way his dad hurts Gwen makes Finney see red.

< edit : sorry… I kind of abandoned this for a while… I didn’t feel like the right person to write Miles’s trauma in the way that I’d intended to. I think I went too head on and even though I did a lot of research, I don’t have any of my own experience to feel right writing it. I definitely bit off more than I could chew and it went much darker than I’d anticipated. Know that I went into this project with full intentions to actually finish it, and I almost did. I did just recently revisit my unposted chapters and it really was way too much, so I reimagined the way I was going to approach that topic. I hope to get more chapters out soon! … thank you so much to everyone who has read it and stuck with it for the journey. <3 >

A tear trickled down his cheek, followed by several more.
“I—”
He swallowed. His shoulders trembled, and he sniffled. Unable to endure the alarmed concern in his father and sister’s eyes, he focused on the plate in front of him.
“I shouldn’t be here.”
And then that ugly, beautiful truth ripped through his skin like a shirt several sizes too small:
“I should be with Al. I want to be with Al.”

After five years of captivity, Finney Blake is finally reunited with his family. He agrees to testify against his kidnapper, but the wounds on his heart run much deeper than the ones on his body, and doing so might not be easy. But just because something isn’t easy doesn’t mean it’s not worth doing.
