Harry Potter has gone through six auror partners in the past four years but it's not his fault that so many people can't just see him as an ordinary bloke who just wants to do his job; they've all got some weird hero-worship complex.
Robards thinks he's found the solution by assigning Draco Malfoy to be his new partner. And while it's true that Malfoy probably doesn't have any sort of desire to save Harry over other people, it's also probably true that Malfoy is just as likely to kill him as anyone they might face on the job. Harry's pretty sure this isn't going to work but they're running out of people to partner Harry with at this point, so he has to give it a try.
He didn't expect that he'd ever be able to get along with Draco Malfoy, and he definitely didn't anticipate having to deal with all of the other feelings that have gone along with it.
