Summary
Nemo wakes alone.
He’s in the grotto, he recognizes dimly, and of course he is. He’s still at his workbench, even. The pieces of the orrery are stacked in neat piles before him, contrasted by spare sheets of paper scattered haphazardly where he’s abandoned each in turn.
* * *
Dakkar wakes alone, in the darkness, at his workbench.
He takes one deep, deep breath, wipes his face, and gets to work.

Summary
“Oh, right.” Sarm did not sound like this was a pleasant thing to have to be saying. He’d sort of hoped it could stay subtext. His voice, which was starting to become more familiar, was pained with worry and hope. “Also, hello, I’m not actually your twin, I’m a faerie who replaced your twin as an infant because I needed to be raised in the mortal realm, nice to meet you.”
Asatur nodded, trying to think of something to say that wasn’t pitiful, or callous, or sappy, and ended up swallowing a lump in his throat. But that was okay, Sarm knew him, he got it, it would be fine, wouldn’t it?
“Are your hands going to be okay?” Asatur flinched at how small his voice was, but maybe it needed to be that way, so Sarm would know he was worried. Because he was. He wasn’t sure, still, if he should be, but he was.

Summary
“I only ask advice if it’s necessary.”
That hangs in the air for a moment. Lan Huan knows his brother, knows the way Lan Zhan will speak only what is relevant and leave his interlocutor grasping to figure out what it’s relevant to, but knowing it only rarely makes the words untangle themselves any faster.
“You mean that Mother knows the only reason you could want to improve the act right now is to help her.”
---
The Twin Prides are not here to enjoy the act, though they often frequent the Nie parlour for that purpose; tonight, they are working.
As the music fades away and the other tables return to their chatter, Wei Wuxian and Jiang Wanyin compare their mental notes, and find themselves in agreement. This act isn't quite the diamond-in-the-rough quality Huaisang usually sets them on, but it is certainly worth their time.

Summary
Dakkar’s been up too long. He knows he’s been up too long. His gaze is slightly fuzzy at the edges, eyes burning. His hair is tied back in a messy ponytail, strands loosely falling out as he stares down at the textbook pages that just won’t make sense.
But he can’t go to sleep yet.
Internal injuries have always been tricky. They are so much harder to treat, with a tendency to react badly to the Ways when ruptured just the wrong ways. It takes a skilled Healer to know exactly which way to weave the spell, magic spinning through the circulatory system—especially when responding alone, only one person to deal with it all.
Dakkar has been attempting to figure out a way to weave one such spell in a minute flat.

Prince Dakkar practices late at night with a Way that he never wants to fail him again.

Summary
No one had ever accused Maxwell Gotch of having particularly good luck. On the contrary, in fact.
Case in point; Olethra was out exploring Zumhara and flirting with Ludmila, while Maxwell was down for the count in his quarters.
Just his luck.

Summary
The grotto is enchanting.
Every time Samuel’s eyes move around while walking through it, he swears they catch on a new wonder. Each item seems to gleam with promise. Gears click, a slight buzz coming off others, both melding with the sound of Samuel's steps—it all creates a melody of its own, weaving its way through the grotto. Some he can decipher what the purpose may be, but there are plenty where he has absolutely no clue. How much of that is because of how much time has passed, and how much is because science has only ever been something he's listened to, never pursued on his own? He's unsure.
Still, there is a strange, undeniable beauty to them. They look carefully constructed—however they have been built, there is no doubt in Samuel's mind that it took time, love, and precision to make them whatever they are.
It can't be anything but.
He won't deny that they thrill him—masterpieces, all.
