Maybe their minds did a similar thing, and Techno had just never been close enough to one before to witness it. "

I know the trope of Odysseus and Penelope rebirthing into the Percy Jackson world and I've watched WAY too many video essays on the actual ancient myth. I blend the two together here, the same way Jorge does (so our modern minds understand the underlying concepts)

There’s something to be said about skeletons in a closet.
Most would agree they’re an ugly truth of the world; most people have something nasty to hide.
Tommy would resent that. His bones are pristine from his rotting flesh, thank you very much.
He wouldn’t deny they’re there though.
That doesn’t make them prettier, just tangible. Tangible, in a terrible and awful fashion. No, Tommy doesn’t much like skeletons in closets but he can’t help that he’s one of them.

Tommy narrowed his eyes, wrinkled his nose, and it was his turn to examine behind the stranger. There was a horse in the clearing, with several bundles of clothes on it.
“Is Phil the horse? He doesn’t look sick to me, though I’m not an expert. I don’t do horse bodies as well as I do human bodies though,” Tommy said, considering.
“What, no,” the man said. “The horse is Carl. This is Phil,” he said, and plucked the crow right off his shoulder to hold him at eye height.
“Oh you smarmy little fucker,” Tommy said, eyes narrowing. “You knew exactly what you were doing when you stole those berries.”
