He doesn’t want to lose Olruggio, but at the same time, Qifrey doesn’t want to keep lying to him about what he did. His brain and heart debate on whether he should confess or not. His heart takes over.

It is okay because it was his hands that pushed the spell onto Qifrey, and it is his hands that draw Qifrey's hand out of the tree's growing mesh now, and it is his hands that make Qifrey's hand hold the spell over his own head, absolving Qifrey of all the sin the act entails — but in the end he cannot be the one to cast the spell, not if he wants this to work.

Whenever she had a free moment, she would wander through the streets until she met the misty border of the space her kind had carved into the waves. The filtered light shining down sparkled, and she loved to watch the sea creatures swim by. Lately, though, the sparkling currents had turned to spotlights on all of her many faults.

And Qifrey knew what had to be done next, but he couldn't bear to do it, so he fled far, far away, hoping that Olruggio didn't follow him.

“You’re my best friend, Kento. I’m always gonna worry about you,” Yu replied easily, pushing into his muscles even harder and damn, that felt amazing; Yu really was good at giving massages. “I don’t like seeing you in pain.”
Kento sucked in a breath, then coughed, trying to play it off as a tic. How was Yu able to be so open with him? How was he able to share what’s in his heart? Hell, Kento can’t even say I love you. He has to rely on don't be stupid and be careful to get the message across.
Sometimes, he wished he were more like Yu.
So, Kento passed him another orange.

Peter Lukas takes a different, hands-on approach to keeping Jon away from Martin, to push Martin further into the Lonely. It has unintended consequences.
“I’m making a cup of tea, do you want one?” He calls to Melanie, and he frowns when she doesn’t respond. She must not have heard him.
Then he gets a chill, and the temperature in the room drops. He freezes. It feels like the chill that accompanies Peter Lukas at all times. He feels panic set in, expecting large hands to reach out and grab him at any moment. He shrinks back against the counter, and that’s when a large man enters the breakroom.
Jon doesn’t recognize him, because he didn’t turn on the lights in the hallway, and he didn’t turn on the overhead light in the breakroom, just the small light over the sink. The man’s face is in shadow, but he doesn’t need to see his face to be sure that it is Lukas. Jon’s body shakes, every part of him yelling at himself to move, but he remains rooted to the spot. Why is he here? Why is he back? Jon hasn’t come anywhere near Martin; what else could he have possibly done to draw Lukas’s attention? Is he looking for a repeat performance? Oh god.
