Summary

He could have sworn that Time itself had been benevolent enough to wait for them that night. The crawling stars his only company. Lucy Gray pressed to his heart where she could be safe and sound forever.
Was this how it was to know the present? When it'd felt like the world was always in some perpetual race to leave him behind as it'd whirled on ahead of him? When he wasn't already passing it all by so quickly in his haste to catch up? What was required of him, then, to simply keep this until the end of his days?
