Everything in Taz’s life can be traced back to her quinceañera, the day she lost everything she’d ever known – and the day she met a Starship Ranger named Up.
Lieutenant Up had spent his life alone, a soldier, devoting himself to a war that has spanned centuries. He can’t explain why he feels so drawn to protect the fiery Mexican girl, this tiny thing who can scream like a banshee in the face of certain death.
Their story spans both lightyears and decades, alien planets and bouncing moons, spacefaring starships and the crumbling ruins of a decaying Earth. Up becomes Taz’s teacher, her commanding officer, her friend and eventually, her love – but when war and tragedy tear him down, it is only she who can try to help him get back up and become the man she knows he can be.

I first read this fic on fanfiction.net YEARS after it was posted because I didn't get super into Starkid until the Covid times. I loved it then, and obviously I love it now, and it's so fun to read the current author's notes alongside the old words that were written. It's like two different people almost. When you go to FFN, there's not a lot of completed works for this pairing with the same care and caliber of LtD, but there are a few who come really close.
I am forever grateful that this fanfic exists and I know that somewhere out there Taz and Up are still dancing.

In an effort to get Max off her back, Grace invites him to a "date" at Waylon Hall in an effort to scare him off. But, when the crumbling floorboards sends Max to his early demise, Grace believes her problem to be solved. Until, he returns as a ghost that only she can see and hear and, even worse, who can't get more than 30 feet away before he forcibly teleports back to her side. Through their efforts to figure out how to send Max to the next plane, they grow closer and learn more about the person they didn't know that well in the first place. But, digging deeper into the mystery may lead them straight to danger that lurks in the heart of this town.
