Katsuki doesn’t know how or why, but somehow, as his hands spark to life, something deep and resigned inside him says, This is it. This is the last time you’re ever going to feel this sort of power at your fingertips. He just knows, without cause or reason, that this is it for him. After this last explosion, his quirk is going to be gone, snuffed out like a candle under a flood.
And yet, just as he's resigned himself to dying on this battlefield, early, as most heroes tend to, there's the smell of burning caramel from far away, and the boom of a massive explosion, one that causes the sound of the city and the battlefield to white out in Katsuki’s mind and that burns so brightly it blinds his eyes.
Deku.
Or, after the events of Heroes Rising, One For All does not just return to Deku's body without consequence. Instead, it takes with it a stowaway: Explosion. And what is a boy who had everything supposed to do when he is left with nothing?

“I love you, Kacchan,” Deku says. His scarred hands wring together, pale, marred skin pulled taut as his fingers worry. Katsuki can see a nick on his wrist, a reminder of a time when his explosions hit too close and there were no teachers to regulate. His cheeks are alight with a red blush, smile small and shy. He looks cute, for the lack of a better word, his confession speech sweet, if a little long.
“What the fuck is wrong with you,” Katsuki says.
And then he slams the door in Deku’s face.

Summary
Zuko had never excelled at anything. Azula was a prodigy. Uncle always knew what to say. And Father... Father was strong, iron-like. But Zuko had only ever been good at surviving. Putting one foot in front of the other in a grim show of stubborn determination, gritting his teeth and bearing it. Survival was all he had ever been taught. He knew how to do it. So when he was kidnapped by the Southern Water Tribe, he expected to fight as he always had. He didn’t expect to be taught instead how to live.
In a warring land, the Water Tribe forgave the enemy in an act of defiance. For this, he was torn from them, and this time, his wounds won't heal so easily.
Forced back into nothing but survival, the last person Zuko expected to see was Hakoda's son. Hakoda was a promise of safety. The relentless blue of Sokka’s eyes was a promise of happiness. Zuko could have both if he just reached out his hands, but he found them clutching into fists. After all, he’d been burned one too many times.
But hey, at least between Hakoda and Sokka, Zuko could appreciate the family resemblance of pure, asinine stubbornness.
