It’s almost comical how her hair spills over the blue weave, but Viago bites back the laugh that wants to escape him. He knows Marisol’s patience is thin at the moment, and laughing at her would ensure that he, too, had a very cold night.
“I’ll warm you once we get to our rooms, si?”
The look she gives him promises retribution should he renege on his promise.
Not for the first time, Viago is left wondering quite how his life turned out like this.

Rook cast a final glance at her father. His ruddy face was streaked with tears. “Do not fret,” she called one last time. “I love you, Papa. Live well.”
And so Rook Thorne became the first mortal to pass the golden gates of Arlathan in many an Age as she carefully picked the strange flower – the rose – from the earth before her. A single thorn pierced her thumb, and she bit back the cry of surprise, not wanting to alarm her father. She took a step, and then another, through the golden gates… and knew no more.

His heart is hammering. His skin feels clammy.
He knows it isn’t poison but by Andraste, it feels as though he’s been poisoned. Every step he takes is sluggish, plagued by the very real fear running through his veins. Because if they have found her– if they caught her unawares, whilst she was bathing– he should have been there, he should have insisted he stay with her. Especially now.
She’s only recently returned from a contract in Nevarra – some noble who learned the truth of King Markus and whom the Mourn Watch needed silenced – that left her exhausted and spent. She had returned and kissed him soundly on the mouth before declaring her intention to take the longest bath ever recorded in Thedas and disappearing into the bathing chamber.
