everything about ty lee is bright. her hair, her eyes, her clothes, and even her smile. sometimes it feels like mai covers herself in black just for the contrast, just for ty lee- a yin and yang, the two of them. ty lee was her little spot of purity, the lotus blossom sticking out from all of her mud.

sokka tries to take a breath. it hurts to breathe. something cold splashes over his burn, and he tries to open his eyes, but his eyelids are sewn shut like worn rags, lead attached to his lashes and weighing them down. his head feels floaty, his limbs like jelly, and belatedly, he realises that this is the end. He’s going to die, ripped open by fire and surrounded by people he was unable to protect.
he wonders if this was how his mother felt.
(or, sokka sacrifices himself for the moon spirit, and it changes everything, yet nothing at all)
