Summary
It’s not Zag's fault that the temple’s in an extreme state of disrepair, or that its worshipers have such good aim. Unfortunately, high on satyr venom and half-buried in a pile of rubble is not the least dignified Than’s ever seen him.
“I bet Meg does this stuff recreationally,” he tells Than, squinting up at him.

Summary
“It’s just, the way you looked standing in the sunlight, you were like one of the Nikés Father told me about, who live up on Olympus.” Zagreus’ lips absently found Thanatos’ shoulder, the bare cool skin where the fabric ended. “You looked like you should have wings, Than, like you could make me blind to everything.”
He felt Thanatos’s arm stiffen, and shivered as fingers slid into his hair and coaxed him to turn his face upwards.
“You make me blind to everything,” Thanatos murmured, as he sought Zagreus’s mouth, “it’s why you’re so infuriating sometimes, Zagreus.”
***
Zagreus is severely wounded in Elysium and wants to end his latest escape attempt on his own terms, in a way of his choosing. When Thanatos turns up looking for him, Zagreus asks him for help. Thanatos' attempt to make it painless for him has some unintended side affects.

Summary
She went first to the hives of Silence and requested from them their beeswax. Then she found where the clay men had hidden their newfound fire, and took from their hearth the smallest burning scrap, which she used to light a wick. As the wax melted down it, its layers dripped and hardened upon themselves, and when it lengthened into a shape she could carry in her arms, she the Night bent her head and kissed life into it. This became the infant she called Charon, half-melted and smoking Promethean fire with every breath.
At the end of this recounting, she tilted her head and asked politely, Is this not how you have children?
Uh, no, said Persephone.

Summary
He wants his mother, for one thing. Like a lost child with aching feet, he wants his mother.
He wants to drink of the Lethe, be lost forever in a numb haze of white. He wants to cloak himself in darkness until even Nyx herself can’t find him, fall backwards into Chaos itself, sink heavy and useless into his grandparent’s domain and scatter into a million different parts. He wants to go to Elysium and bring the King and the Bull low there just to hear the crowd’s cheers for him, a million blurred faces who don’t know who he is or what he’s done and never will-- and love him despite.
It’s not real love, of course; they just like the show.
And if Zagreus really is the god of blood, the Fates must be laughing.

Summary
In the first days of Zagreus's tutelage, Achilles is still full of wrath more than anything. His bitterness toward the gods is untempered, and before him stands one of their scions, vulnerable and yet immortal, able to take however much he chooses to dish out.
(Or, perhaps, not so immortal after all. And in the end, very vulnerable indeed.)

"I realize I'm being awfully selfish by even asking you to consider this, but you've always been kind to me, and you're—well, you don't need me to tell you you're handsome, I'm sure, and I just..." He breathes out a little sigh. "Is it so bad to want someone who cares?"
Being Prince of the Underworld isn't easy when you're constantly being reminded of all the ways you're not good enough. Fortunately, Achilles is there to show Zagreus he has people who care about him.

Summary
The stranger's feet do not burn, and that is what fascinates Patroclus. In life he saw men repair damaged weapons in flames as bright as Zagreus' soles, hot enough to make dead iron glow and submit and live again. Patroclus is the iron in this analogy.

Summary
Five perspectives on Thanatos and Zagreus as they fall, and in the aftermath.
“He's not leaving,” Thanatos bites back. “There's nowhere to go.”
Ah, the words of a god. To Achilles’ once-mortal eyes, there are cracks and open windows and doors with just the right key and escape routes aplenty from the House. “So you'd think. I guess wherever he goes, you'll be seeing him either way.”
Thanatos turns to him and it's as if this had never occurred to him. “What do you mean?”
“Didn't you tell him? It's a hard world out there. I’m sure he'll find out, and I don't know anything that can bleed that doesn't wash up here eventually.”

Summary
He's late, he realizes.
There's a lot of blood here, he realizes a moment later. Not the blackened stains of shades temporarily banished, but the dark-red and glistening of mortal blood, spattered in desperate arcs across the grass, staining the water where the River Lethe pools. Across the chamber, it shifts to a trail of blood, the imprint of bare footprints burned into the darkening liquid.
There. There, slumped with his back against a green-glowing infernal trove, an ethereal sword buried in his chest, a pool of blood slowly spreading beneath him—Zagreus, Prince of the Underworld, his warmth and light so faded that Thanatos didn't even realize he was still in the chamber.

Summary
What happens when a god is forgotten by the mortals who had once sung their praises?
"No one was ever happy to see death. Even those who were ready to die were never thrilled when he appeared to them. Why should gods be any different? The circle muttered and Thanatos waited for them to fall silent. The shadow of the faded god watched him as he approached. He made his way over the flat packed earth towards where they sat. He still couldn’t make out any details, any echoes of what this god had once been and he stopped trying as he came close. He focused only on the spark."

Being a Protector of the Realm (title reinstatement pending) doesn't really allow the time for a lot of healthy coping mechanisms. But Vex is oh so very excellent at tearing off Percy's carefully constructed masks.
A missing scene from s01ep12, because maybe our heroes deserve a snack and some sleep and can try to come to grips with coming home and meeting all the memories waiting there.Bookmarked by snows
