The curiosity may actually kill him. Give him the face-to-face rejection he was so desperately trying to avoid.

Will trembled in the hold, his hands tentatively resting on the paladin's cloak. His eyes flick to Mike, then to the man holding him, his breath coming faster.
"W— I'm— what?"
The knight pulled back, only enough to see Will's face, loathe to let their bodies part. His brow furrowed in concern, looking at Will with such care it made his head spin.
"Are you unharmed, beloved?"
Mike asked before he got the chance to, but Will could hear the tension in his jaw when he spoke. "Beloved?"

When a rift opens from another reality, Will comes face to face with a fantastical version of Mike. Not only is he a knight from a realm he didn't know existed, but he is completely and utterly devoted to Will. Something that, for no clear reason, seems to agitate his world's Mike beyond reason.
In their efforts to return the paladin to his own realm, feelings and secrets are brought out of the shadow, and into the light.
Or, Sir Michael The Brave plays matchmaker for another realm's version of him and his William.

Now, someone walked into the room. A boy, awkwardly standing at the side of his bed, looking over him worriedly. His hair was brown and scruffy, and he had big baby doe eyes and a yellow-and-blue horizontally-striped shirt like a cartoon character. The window was lighting him up like he was important to Mike’s narrative. The curtains are blue, thought Mike, this boy is light. I love metaphors. Maybe he was high on the pain meds. Upon seeing him, Mike felt a great affection, a great peace. Plus, he had long eyelashes. Mike almost giggled to himself. He was definitely a little high.
“Hi.” breathed Mike.
“Hi.” he said, hesitating.
“We’re friends?” Mike asked hopefully.
Or: During the Party's final battle with Vecna, Mike is gravely injured and loses his memories. He wakes up in a hospital only remembering a handful of inconsequential little things, like how much he loves a boy who seems like light.

“No, he doesn’t,” Max said, but it came out more like a question than anything. And then she looked over at Mike, who was horribly red in the face and was suddenly feeling an overwhelming urge to reconnect with nature after this. “Wait. Does he?”
OR: Mike gets jealous at a party, accidentally reveals that Will has a boyfriend, and neglects to tell anybody that he's the boyfriend in question.

“He really does look like Mike,” Lucas breathes, as he gives Mike’s twin a scan, head to toe.
“Yeah, if Mike were way hotter and a knight?” Max chips in, and Will can vaguely hear Mike muttering again. “He looks so medieval, like he’s from Camelot or some shit.”
“I am Michael,” the knight begins to plead again. He turns his doe eyes back to Will, returning to his side like a diligent guard, even going as far as to reach out and take his hands. “Please, you have to believe me. I would never lie to you. Have I ever broken our oath? Let me prove it.”
Will was a bit preoccupied with gazing into the knight’s eyes, his cheeks flushing under the intense stare and the way his hands were held so gently. Mike had no issues ruining their moment.
“And he’s weirdly obsessed with Will.” Mike sounds even angrier than he did in the woods, and his sharp tone is enough for Will to snap out of his hand-holding to step a respectable distance away from the knight. “We need to send him back to wherever he came from.”
or
Mike the Brave ends up in Hawkins and sweeps Will off his feet. Mike has a lot of Feelings™ about it.
