Summary
Two wins away.
That’s all it was supposed to be.
Instead, Game 5 leaves Ilya Rozanov without a spleen, stitched down the center of his abdomen, and watching Game 6 from a hospital bed. But Ilya has never let pain keep him out of the room, and Game 7 is no exception.
A story about fire and precision, about husbands who share leadership and weight, about chosen family, and about the night the Stanley Cup waited while a team said thank you to their captain.

Summary
While Shane is away at a charity gala, the Pikes babysit an injured Ilya. Of course, Alexei decides this is a perfect time to make a reappearance.
OR
Rozanov tries to steady himself, biting off another foreign curse to pull that hockey-bred steel into his shoulders. Hayden beats him to it.
Just as an angry man bursts through the front door, Hayden shoves himself between Rozanov and the threat. Rozanov makes a sharp sound. Hayden ignores it to square his shoulders, and braces for whatever is about to come.
He isn’t Shane, and Rozanov certainly isn’t Jackie, but the equation is the same as earlier. If he’d expect his friend to stand between Jackie and danger, Hayden’s sure as hell willing to do the same.

Summary
He was going to die.
He was actually going to die.
The thought should send him into a panic. He should scream for help, cry, or do something. But instead, he just accepts it.
This was it. This was how it ended. He’d become his mother after all.

Summary
“No, no, wait.” Ilya scrambles out of the bed and begins rummaging through his bag. Bewildered, Shane opens his mouth to speak, but every nerve in his body freezes when he sees what Ilya pulls out.
A large black and yellow jersey, with the big numbers 81 plastered on the back. Above the digits, almost in a mocking tone, white letters spell Rozanov.
“You’re kidding,” Shane sputters, reflexes failing him when Ilya chucks his jersey at his gaping face with an absurd amount of precision.
“Very serious,” Ilya replies cooly, still wearing that stupid fucking grin Shane simultaneously wants to brutally punch and tenderly kiss off his face. “Is my prize.”
or, shane loses a bet and wears ilya's jersey. they both learn something about themselves that night.

Summary
Hayden had known Shane was gay for a while now.
He didn’t want his best friend to live in a world where it felt dangerous to be his true self. He didn’t want anyone to have to live that way. So lately he had been extra sensitive to the homophobia that was rampant in the NHL. He started calling out his teammates who made homophobic comments. He had already gotten in several fights on the ice over the issue. After being so passive on the issue for so long, he wasn’t holding back any longer.
So he certainly didn’t hold back when he heard Shane’s rival, Ilya fucking Rozanov, being homophobic toward Shane.
OR: Hayden is just trying to be a good ally. He accidentally commits a hate crime instead. Oops.
