Summary
Technically, Starfleet couldn’t mandate that a Bajoran Militia security officer take time off work after a traumatic ordeal. That didn’t stop them from trying – first Dr Bashir had attempted to prescribe a holiday, then Captain Sisko reminded the Constable of the number of equally qualified security staff who could take over while he let himself recover, but Odo refused to cave. He had worked through traumatic incidents in the past without needing time off. Sure, he had not been human then. The addition of a functioning brain did make mental trauma feel more intense. But he could not let himself show such weakness, not so soon after exposing so much to Quark on the mountain.
It was fitting, in a way, that it was Quark who finally convinced him to take the time to heal.
