Pearly-rose is swiftly becoming one of my favorite JB writers. This post-ADWD book canon fic is excellent, with a fantastic Jaime POV that slowly reveals his own understanding of his feelings for Brienne at just the right pace. There are some turns of phrase in here that made me want to gnaw my own arm they were so good, and she does a deft job of putting in little drops of humor at just the right moment.

Loved this one. Pearly Rose does such a wonderful job of letting us get to know this Jaime and Brienne as teens and then walking them through all of the growth they need to get to their much deserved happy ending. There's a great subplot about women's soccer that kept things popping, but the emotional thread of Jaime and Brienne's relationship is what carries the whole fic to it's earned happy ending. Just a lot of fun with the right amount of angst and yearning.

Summary
Jaime is aware that going away inside, the way he does when the world is so much he can not remain in his body, and going under, the way he does with Brienne, when she is in control and he is so exactly right there with her that the rest of the world fades out of focus, are connected somehow. They aren’t the same, but they are similar. At first he thought they were exact opposites, the two extremes on either end of the spectrum of being in or out of his body, but the more he and Brienne explored what she was capable of doing to him, the more he realized it wasn’t that simple.
Alternatively: After the war Jaime and Brienne visit Casterly Rock. Jaime deals with being there to the best of his ability. Brienne helps him however she can.

This is a sort of post-show/book canon AU where Jaime returns to Casterly Rock and is Struggling. He and Brienne are married and while he is haunted by Cersei's ghost and all it meant, Brienne is such a solid beacon of support and light bringing him home. Gorgeous and heartbreaking and vulnerable character study of Jaime. There's a line in this that just destroyed me.

The author uses jumping back and forth in time to parcel out the moments of intense hotness and sweetness in a perfect mix. Their language is gorgeous, there are some beautiful emotional punches scattered throughout, and the sex is fun AND tender AND sexy.

They make the most of it. I have thought about this fic SO MUCH since I read it. Each day is so lovingly handled, not just with sex (which they don’t have every day), but their quiet joy and devotion to each other. This fic is full of tenderness and a little melancholy and a lot of love.
