“She found the person and now I’m alone in this stupid house,” Steve throws his arms up in the air as he says it, a small frown falling over his face. He turns to look at Eddie again and the frown melts to something soft and happy. “Not alone anymore,” Steve giggles and leans closer to Eddie. His head comes to rest on Eddie’s shoulder and his hair tickles Eddie’s neck.
“Not alone,” Eddie confirms and lets out a little puff of air at the increased contact.
“Glad you’re here Eddie,” Steve says and it’s a little slurred and very soft and Eddie’s heart does something funny.

Summary
Dean Winchester is accustomed to the unexpected. Where he lives, the way he lives, he has to be.
He is not, however, expecting to stumble across a body in an alley. He's not expecting the body to be alive, he's certainly not expecting himself to carry the guy home. He's not expecting to find a friend, he's not expecting to see his own past and mistakes reflected in this guy's eyes.
He doesn't need this, he doesn't need the burden of taking care of another person. He doesn't need the pain of failing. And he doesn't need all the trouble that Castiel brings into his life.
