It’s December 24th.
Mike finds himself at his front window, staring out at the snow that’s slowly drifting down in gentle flakes onto his front lawn. Last year, the snow had fallen just like this. He wonders if Vanessa is looking at the same snowfall tonight. She had always loved the snow.
He wonders if she’s up late too, alone at home, pretending that tonight is just like all the others.

Mike hasn’t seen Vanessa for two months. It’s Christmas Eve, and the memory of his last Christmas spent with Vanessa resounds with a hollow, aching echo of what home, whatever that may be now, used to feel like. -

It was strange. It was cute."
