Summary
Naturally, Kel’s goal was to stop the car, slow down, and dodge the inadvertent roadblock set up by the paramedics.
Like he was playing Russian Roulette, he made a split-second decision he didn’t have the time to hope was right. He lurched forward in horror as his lead foot collided with the gas pedal instead of the brake.
“Get out of the way!” he screamed until his throat was raw. “Move!”
Kel saw the silhouette of a man in rescue gear directly in front of his vehicle, the sheer terror in the young man’s frantic eyes illuminated by the yellow glow of the headlights moments before he was struck.
