He wonders what's gotten into him.
Johnny is certainly cute— even aside from his slight resemblance to Kaz— but it's not like Snake to be so fixated on someone for so long. It's not like he doesn't get restless sometimes, but it's never been this bad. Every time he looks at Johnny for too long, he thinks he'd look better breathless and squirming beneath him.
Maybe it has something to do with Johnny potentially reciprocating his interest.
Big Boss isn't sure how to spend his new lease on life. And Johnny Sasaki is the last person he would've thought he'd ever get involved with.

Snake cups Johnny's face with both hands. His skin is so warm. He slips a thumb into Johnny's mouth.
"Yeah?" He presses his thumb against an incisor, heat pooling low and heavy in his stomach. "You want me?"
Snake returns home to find Johnny running warmer than normal.

"Despite everything," Venom starts quietly. He squeezes Kaz's thighs, as if to ground himself by touching him, "you still want to be with me?"
"Yes," Kaz replies, letting go of his hair to put his hand on his shoulder and steady himself. He leans his weight forward, pressing chest to chest with him. "Is it that hard to believe?"
Kaz has known since the first time they slept together again that he wasn't Big Boss. But he chose to stay anyway.

"You wanted to be here when I woke up," Chris murmurs. The look in his eyes is soft. "I'm made of tougher stuff than a few bullets, Al. You didn't have to worry so much."
Wesker frowns at him as he paces back around the bed to his chair. "You'll need at least a month to recover fully. Likely a bit longer to recover the full range of motion in your arm."
"Don't look so glum," Chris says with a smile. "It's better this way."
He stares at him. "I'm afraid I don't follow."
"I mean it's better I got shot than one of the Hound Wolves," he replies, shrugging his unhurt shoulder. "I'm the one who probably most deserves it."
The Hound Wolves are fine. He's not sure Chris will be.
Chris gets hurt while out on a mission. Wesker decides to take matters into his own hands.

Summary
Snake gets brought back into an unfamiliar new world, fifteen years later, in a body not quite his own anymore. He has to figure out what he wants to make of his life now that he has a second chance, regardless of whether or not it was earned. He finds, surprisingly, that sometimes journeys are better with a companion.
An exploration into Big Boss's journey if he chose to live after the events of MGS4. Series title is from Joy Sullivan's Instructions for Traveling West: Poems.
