Summary
Someone at American Airlines must have it out for Gabe, because his flight back to Los Angeles is delayed, too—an hour and a half for the storm frosting over LaGuardia’s expansive windows, another hour for some kind of technical issue with the plane, and then thirty minutes for the flight crew to change out, because all of the delays mean they’re at the end of their shifts, or something—Gabe wasn’t really paying attention. By the time they’ve clocked an additional hour sitting on the runway, Gabe resigns himself to the re-imagining of his homecoming, specifically with a lot less exuberant reunion sex and a lot more sleeping. He shoots William a text not to wait up, receives the answering colon-open parenthesis, and turns his phone on airplane mode, tipping his head back against the seat and closing his eyes.

Summary
“I moved from Sydney to Chicago to join this girl's band,” really made it sound like a big U-Haul lesbian move. But Michaela hadn't lived lived in Sydney in years. She was mostly based out of LA these days. And LA and Chicago were just comparable American cities you could totally bounce between to be in different bands like no big deal.
Michaela Grace Chislett figures out her place in a new band, and falls in big stupid love with her co-guitarist. As you do.

Mikie found herself looking up at her ceiling, the spots barely illuminated by her bedside lamp. The sun was down now, Willow should be over this already. Things were going so good with the band, they’d survived so many ups and downs – they were doing everything they could have ever wanted to as a band. Why didn’t it feel like they were succeeding? Why didn’t it feel like they were as happy as they should be?
“Mikie?” Sisky’s voice cuts through the silence, sweet and girlish. “I’m sure she’s gonna answer soon. You know how she is.”
“She’s the most difficult human being on earth,” Mikie agreed, letting out a laugh – not because it was funny, but because she was nervous, and she didn’t know how else to expel the feeling. “I wish she would just answer my calls already. Or yours. Something.”
