With his record, he's not expecting things to ever be sunshine and roses, but hell, any break to this tired monotony is more than welcome.

Summary
Five years after my initial playthrough, I decided to play this stupid, beautiful, obsession-inducing game again and fell right back in love with FenHawke. This fic is a love letter to the game - mostly canon-compliant and as self-indulgently long, fluffy, angsty, and full of banter as I can make it. I'm also exploring magic, first as something that actually needs to be hidden and second as something that can be used in peace as much as it can be in war. Tags will be added as they become relevant, but this is already 33 (edit: 60 [edit: 159]) pages long in my drafts and I have to get it out into the world.
Hawke didn't want to be a mercenary, let alone a hero, and definitely not a Champion. Fenris, for his part, wanted to escape magic in all its forms. However, life rarely gives one what they want - and for the two of them, that might even be a good thing.

It had been a long time since Sylvain had gotten drunk with Ashe, and he found himself paying attention to every little thing Ashe did tonight. Earlier in the dorms they had taken shots of cheap liquor and chased it with cola straight from a shared plastic bottle; Sylvain couldn’t look away from Ashe’s lips around the rim, where his own lips had been just moments before. That was an indirect kiss. And it was probably stupid to fixate on that when, by now, they’d directly done a lot more than kissing, but still, Sylvain felt warm and tipsy and keenly aware of every trace amount of contact between them.

For an instant, Sylvain’s brain functions come to an abrupt stop, and all the longing and lust and love take over. Felix is seated on his bed like it’s his rightful throne, long legs crossed over the edge of the mattress, the cloth in his hand running over the blade of his dagger with nonchalant care. His short hair brushes the sharp angle of his shoulders as he stretches to sheathe the knife back into its scabbard, tossed carelessly on Sylvain’s desk. His blouse is half-opened over the dip of his throat, the pale skin of his chest dyed in warm candlelight, and Sylvain’s thoughts slip back into fantasy.
“Why?” Sylvain croaks out.
Felix raises an eyebrow in elegant dubiety. “Didn’t think you’d be playing coy, by now.”
Oh, Sylvain thinks, and he shoves himself back into practiced assurance as he shoves the door closed. No escaping it now.
A few weeks into their relationship, Sylvain realizes he wants Felix to wreck him.
